Golden Circle, Glacier & Northern lights/Midnight sun

DURATION 8-9HRS PICKUP TIME 9.00 - or up on request

First up is Þingvellir National Park, home of Iceland’s ancient parliament. We’ll spend about 20 minutes walking through the park to experience the dramatic mid-Atlantic ridge where the 9000-year old lava field splits apart . Approaching the home of the great Strokkur geyser in the geothermal area of Haukadalur, you’ll likely be able to see an eruption every 5 to 7 minutes. Spouting boiling hot water into the air at heights of approximately 25 to 30 meters, we’ll stop here to enjoy one of nature’s greatest shows while exploring the colourful hot springs. Next, we’ll be enroute to the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall: a two- tiered drop into the white Hvita river with its powerful glacial run-off waters.

Then we’re northbound at the beginning of the Kjölur interior mountain road, famous for being the second longest route through the Highlands of Iceland. This road has been around since the early Icelandic settlements and is even mentioned in Icelandic sagas. We’ve come to see the second largest glacier in the country, Langjökull. In the summer, we’ll drive onto the glacier; in the winter, snowmobile activities take place either on or next to the glacier, depending on conditions. The snowmobile option allows for an extra hour to explore (or longer, if requested). Next stop is dinner in the country side before heading back to Reykjavík and hunt for northern lights in the winter or enjoy the midnight sun in summer.

Now we are celebrating 25 years together!

In the year 1995, Björk and Kristján started Mountain Taxi with one driver guide and one vehicle. 25 years later, we’re still at it! Glaciers have moved, volcanoes have erupted and as we say in Iceland, a lot of water has run to sea, but one thing remains the same. Our passion to explore and give you the best experience of Iceland possible.

We’re happy to announce that it’s time to make an old dream come true and start a new chapter in Mountain Taxi history. From the start of 2020 we will be focusing solely on private tours to give you the best possible experience of our wonderful island. As a part of this new chapter we will no longer be ofering water in plastic bottles, but giving our guests reusable, eco-friendly water bottles. It’s been a great 25 years, and we look forward to writing the next chapter with you!

Thank you!

Björk, Kristján & the Mountain Taxi team.
