Golden Circle, Glacier & Northern lights/Midnight sun
DURATION 8-9HRS PICKUP TIME 9.00 - or up on request
First up is Þingvellir National Park, home of Iceland’s ancient parliament. We’ll spend about 20 minutes walking through the park to experience the dramatic mid-Atlantic ridge where the 9000-year old lava field splits apart . Approaching the home of the great Strokkur geyser in the geothermal area of Haukadalur, you’ll likely be able to see an eruption every 5 to 7 minutes. Spouting boiling hot water into the air at heights of approximately 25 to 30 meters, we’ll stop here to enjoy one of nature’s greatest shows while exploring the colourful hot springs. Next, we’ll be enroute to the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall: a two- tiered drop into the white Hvita river with its powerful glacial run-off waters.
Then we’re northbound at the beginning of the Kjölur interior mountain road, famous for being the second longest route through the Highlands of Iceland. This road has been around since the early Icelandic settlements and is even mentioned in Icelandic sagas. We’ve come to see the second largest glacier in the country, Langjökull. In the summer, we’ll drive onto the glacier; in the winter, snowmobile activities take place either on or next to the glacier, depending on conditions. The snowmobile option allows for an extra hour to explore (or longer, if requested). Next stop is dinner in the country side before heading back to Reykjavík and hunt for northern lights in the winter or enjoy the midnight sun in summer.
Other Private Trips
Mountain Taxi has from the beginning stuck to high standards of Super-jeep building and modification. A Mountain Taxi Superjeep is a big, comfortable SUV or van, extensively rebuilt here in Iceland by 4×4 experts, for up to 46 inch tall monster tyres.
Aurora Hunt Private Tour
The feeling of staring skywards at the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, can not be caught on film, brought indoors, nor adequately described.
Golden Circle & Glacier Private Tour
You see the one and only original Geysir and having Gullfoss waterfall in front of you is worth a day trip on its own. Þingvellir is a National Park, nature reserve, Unesco World Heritage site, and split by the Mid-Atlantic Rift. By using our super jeeps, we can also add the extraordinary Langjökull glacier to your list of impressions. We start the day in Þingvellir, where the Parliament of Iceland was founded in 930 AD.
