Golden Circle

DURATION 5-6 HRS PICKUP TIME 9.00 - or up on request

The Golden Circle is Iceland’s most popular day trip, for good reason.
You see the one and only original Geysir and having Gullfoss waterfall in front of you is worth a day trip on its own. Þingvellir is a National Park, nature reserve, Unesco World Heritage site, and split by the Mid-Atlantic Rift. We start the day in Þingvellir, where the Parliament of Iceland was founded in 930 AD. There, you get a view from “the edge of America” over the Mid-Atlantic continental divide. Continuing, we pass the geothermal heated Laugarvatn lake before arriving at the Great Geysir hot spring area, peppered with small and large boiling water springs.

Golden Circle Glacier
Thingvellir, Þingvellir, private tour

The most spectacular one, Strokkur, blasts wboiling water up to 30m skywards, up to 3 times in a minute. After some quality time at Geysir, a short drive takes us to Iceland’s most visited glacier, Gullfoss, where glacier meltwater thunders in two stages into a 70m deep basalt canyon. In the afternoon, we head back again and traverse the South Iceland agricultural heartland on our way home to Reykjavik.

Now we are celebrating 25 years together!

In the year 1995, Björk and Kristján started Mountain Taxi with one driver guide and one vehicle. 25 years later, we’re still at it! Glaciers have moved, volcanoes have erupted and as we say in Iceland, a lot of water has run to sea, but one thing remains the same. Our passion to explore and give you the best experience of Iceland possible.

We’re happy to announce that it’s time to make an old dream come true and start a new chapter in Mountain Taxi history. From the start of 2020 we will be focusing solely on private tours to give you the best possible experience of our wonderful island. As a part of this new chapter we will no longer be ofering water in plastic bottles, but giving our guests reusable, eco-friendly water bottles. It’s been a great 25 years, and we look forward to writing the next chapter with you!

Thank you!

Björk, Kristján & the Mountain Taxi team.
